Because I’m lazy

Posted on Thursday, April 9, 2009 in life

There is a rather large post on it’s way about my trip to London but because I am so lazy, I just can’t get it done. Maybe it is writers block (yeah, I’m a real writer now).

Just going to leave you with the quick update that I am in a terribly good mood today for a few reasons.

Bring on Rimini!

EDIT: I don’t think it is fair to leave this post as it was. It is a bit of a rubbish and pointless post isn’t it? Well, being as I am nice, I am going to leave you with this rather amusing Facebook group called “Your having a graph…”. Give this a click, some of them are obviously rubbish but a few of them may just brighten up your day!

Now I have time

Posted on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 in miscellaneous

As my last post suggested, I have currently been handed a lot more free time as I no longer have the time commitment of a girlfriend.

I’m just thinking that may be the blessing that the people who actually read this have been waiting for. This is because I am sure in all of my idleness, I’ll be blogging a lot more.

Can’t hurt can it?

What happens when I’m left to my own devices

Posted on Monday, March 30, 2009 in life

Well as many on Facebook have probably seen by now, I am single again.

For me, this is a big thing. I’m not too used to being single. I generally fall from one relationship to the next, so the times between are kind of hard for me.

Having said that, this time I’m doing what I can to keep myself occupied and so far I’m not doing to badly. I’ve been playing a popular MMO (not saying which one to avoid boos and jeers…) and I have really enjoyed my day just talking away to people on Facebook and MSN.

There is one person who I have been talking to for hours now, and it has been really nice to just talk completely unrestricted to someone who you get on with and can trust. I suppose if every day of being single is like this, I don’t think I’m going to be too worried.

If only it was that easy…

Swansea: Britain’s student holiday camp.

Posted on Thursday, March 26, 2009 in humour, life

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of walking around Swansea for various reasons (mostly girlfriend related if I am honest).

The one thing that I have noticed that living in Swansea is a lot like being on holiday, but not in the way you may be thinking…

Firstly, I have noticed that just like in most foreign tourist areas everyone seems to be talking English the same as you, yet you still have a hard time discerning any sort of meaning from what they are saying. Now this isn’t an attack on the intelligence or any aspect of the local inhabitants of Swansea, there are a many great people in Swansea. This is just what I have experienced in my time staying here.

Secondly, just like France and Spain, every car you see has at least a nice scuff on it. That is, at least. Quite a few have a nice big chunk out of them or are fitted with exhausts so over-sized, the extra metal makes up for the metal missing from some panel of the car. Why not bash it up on the way out of the showroom to just get it over with?

Again, just like Europe, everything here used to be cheap, but just isn’t anymore. Damn economy and rise of the Euro!

A pretty obvious one for foreign countries, but not so much for Swansea. There are lots and lots of foreign people here. I’m not the type of person that thinks Britain should close it’s gates to everyone and not let anyone in, in factI think Britain’s cultural diversity is one of it’s plus points. Its just that when I moved here, I guess I was just a little surprised by all of the people from different backgrounds who all live so close together. I suppose, that comes with the university territory.

Lastly, and most obviously, the access to a beach.

In contrast to being on holiday, I don’t often go on holiday to places where it rains 99% of the time…

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. In every post from now I will include a strikethrough’d statement. (The last statement, if you couldn’t guess, was a lie and a joke.)

Glad to have you back

Posted on Thursday, February 5, 2009 in life

To be honest, I love University.

I love being at Uni, especially the course I’m doing. Computer Science.

Many people think that this is the geekiest thing that you can study, and maybe it is. But here’s a tip; it is all the better for it. I have never, in my positively infinite 20 years that i have been alive met such a great and diverse bunch of people. I think many ‘outsiders’ will just be shocked to learn that some, nay, many people who study Computer Science have at least a basic grasp of social interaction.

But what ever I just wrote above doesn’t really have anything to do with what I actually wanted to write about, which was why I love Uni. To some it may seem a bit odd that I  am writing about enjoying being back at Uni even though we are now into February. It does look a tad too late for that doesn’t it? Well, the point is as soon as the official term started we just had exams. Joy.

I can’t say I am as bothered by exams as a lot of people are. I would much rather do a bunch of exams which involve me cramming the closer it gets than having some long drawn out coursework that I have to sit there, researching and drafting or coding and debugging. But now the exams are over (and also a few other less than enjoyable things that have happened recently), it is actually great to be back learning stuff that is not only interesting but will, hopefully, net me some cash after it is all said and done.

On a side note: we had a snow-day on Tuesday. Fuck you snow, your just cold and wet and you suck.

Another few side notes: New Gnome-Do == awesome, Opera web browser seems to have come a long way since I used it last and I seem to be addicted to graphic novels at the moment.

I guess to summarise, I have a house mate who said that he came to Uni mostly for the pub-life that he leads. This is fine for him. Not for me, University is one of the greatest places ever even without the drinking, just the sheer amount of knowledge and intelligence in one place for some reason just keeps me going and that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I’m at Uni. To get smart (and maybe rich).

P.S. I know what I have written here is very waffly (If that is a word, oh wait, spell checker said it isn’t. I’m going to keep it though, it just sounds right.). You will notice, if you check the timestamp, that it is 4:05am GMT and that my friends, is why I am writing like this. All work and no sleep make Kris an un-happy bunny.

Rememberance

Posted on Saturday, January 31, 2009 in life

I know what you are all thinking: “He hasn’t updated this is AGES! I think he has given up on it.”

But you would be wrong.

A sad as it sounds, I simply haven’t had the time to blog in the last few months as everything has just been so hectic.

The one thing that will make me write again is the unexpected death of a good friend… (more…)

Long time, no post

Posted on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 in life

I haven’t written anything in a while, and I have realised why: I’m always bloody tired lately.

Have you noticed that my last post was around the time that I was starting back at uni? Well, if you didn’t, just to inform you, it was.

This is because since then I have barely had much time to sit down and think about what I am going to post and I was/am fed up of posting just random rubbish, I would like my blog to mean something to the people that read it (even if those people just encompass me (bad English I know, but, I’m Welsh so I’ll bastardise English all I want, all my other countrymen seem to do it so why can’t I?))

Since I last posted a lot has gone on. Here is a quick summary of what has happened with me:

  • Started back at Swansea University for my second year of Computer Science
  • Took up Ultimate Frisbee (they got the name right, I love this sport) at uni, I’m now one of the Swansea Ugly Ducklings!
  • Went for many job interviews (Sainsbury, Game and Staples come to mind firstly)
  • Accepted jobs in Sainsbury and Game
  • Started working in Game
  • Bought Saints Row 2 so have been playing that a lot since I bought it
  • Went to a Ultimate tournament in Plymouth
  • Uni work in general
  • Living with 5 other guys and the few others who are always here (not a bad thing)
  • Trying to keep my girlfriend happy while she avoids staying at her own house)
As you can see, I have been a fairly busy boy and I can tell you are bored of reading an update on mylife, so I will leave you with this recursive acronym for my name:
KRIS = KRIS really is sarcastic

Virgins of the internet

Posted on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 in computing, life

Long time no see guys! Well, it hasn’t been that long, but still, I have missed you.

The reason for this hiatus is simply my lack of internet connection. I have moved into my shared student house in Swansea and I’m enjoying it a lot. Even though we had no internet for just over 2 weeks it has been a good laugh and I can see I have made the right choice in house mates.

Strangely, the lack of internet was a good thing. Male bonding (not bondage) and all that.

The lack of internet is a great segway onto why I am posting.

Basically, we chose Virgin Media as our ISP with the nice fiber optic 20Mb/s connection (which is rumoured to be going up to 50Mb/s soon). We signed up, paid the installation and everything was installed fine. Hunky-dory then? Almost.

With the Virgin internet package we get a free wireless router, a nice Netgear one not unlike the one I have back in Newport. Sounds good eh? It is. Sort of.

See, Virgin have installed their own firmware on the router for some reason (I can’t see the point of this) which is locked in and is un-upgradable.

We had a browse to see if we could unlock it but no dice. Seems odd to me that an Internet Service Provider wants to stop their users from benefiting from security updates that they don’t provide and therefore don’t really have to support but can be of great advantage to more advanced users.

Moral of the story: you get what you pay for.

A dusty old gem

Posted on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 in TV

In relation to my previous post, I have stumbled upon an old website for the cartoon; Batman: The Animated Series.

While the website is quite basic and poor by today’s internet standards it gives a glimpse of what my reason for getting up on a Saturday morning was like.

Have a browse and buy the DVDs!

Duncan’s hometown

Posted on Thursday, July 10, 2008 in life

As I mentioned in my last post, I went to Kettering to visit my friend Duncan in his hometown for a weekend of drinking and merryment. How did it go you ask? (more…)
